Affirmative Self-talk can block negative energy

I believe in the power of my own words to make positive changes in my life. I am a high achiever because I tell myself, “I am able.” Words like these banish any thoughts of doubt about my talents or abilities.

Each day I begin with a self-talk session. In the quietness of my office, I take a few moments to reassure myself.

I consider each challenge I face and affirm that I have a specific skill set to counteract it. This exercise keeps me connected to my deep-rooted strengths. My self-belief grows stronger when I take the time to talk to myself about my abilities.

Positive reinforcement keeps negativity away from my life.

Whenever I feel doubt coming on, I retreat and meditate. Those moments renew my determination because I focus on my potential. When I remind myself of the force that I am, doubt quickly subsides.

I avoid taking others’ negative opinions of my abilities to heart. Giving too much consideration to external perspectives can cause negativity to fester.

In order to continue to be successful, I celebrate my talents and innate gifts. Giving those talents the authority to shine makes me a winner.

Today, positive energy thrives in my life when I pat myself on the shoulder. I am a firm believer in embracing my true strengths. I am committed to using affirmative self-talk to drive me to achieve greatness.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. What are some positive, uplifting things I can tell myself to feel courageous?
  2. How do I maintain a positive mindset after being discouraged by others?
  3. How often do I turn to others for encouragement when I feel doubtful?

The truth about affirmations and how to make them work for you.

Picture
If you’re new to affirmations, you’ve picked a good time to get started. These positive statements can be powerful.

A recent study confirmed the effectiveness of affirmations. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University found that people under high stress did about 50% worse on a problem solving test. However, when they used a brief self-affirmation first, they did just as well as the other participants.

This guide explains the benefits of using these affirmations and how to get the most from them.

Consider the Benefits of Affirmations:

  1. Improve your performance. In addition to overcoming stress, affirmations can also help you learn from your mistakes. They promote flexible thinking that makes it easier to spot your errors and form new habits.

  2. Feel better. This is medicine that tastes good. Skillful self-talk cheers you up instantly. It’s like giving yourself a hug.

  3. Enjoy better relationships. It’s easy to slip into defensiveness when you feel tense. Affirmations give you a more constructive method for dealing with difficult issues so you can remain open to what others have to say.

  4. Protect your physical health. Chronic stress triggers inflammation and interferes with your metabolism. Simply relaxing reduces your risk for many serious health conditions, including obesity.

  5. Draw on your strengths. Maybe you excel as a parent, but struggle with public speaking. Affirmations remind you of your most important strengths and help build your confidence in weaker areas.

  6. Take them everywhere. Your boss may look at you funny if you interrupt a staff meeting to get a massage. On the other hand, you can recite uplifting messages out loud or silently wherever you go.

Discover more meaning. Most importantly, affirmations welcome more meaning into your life. You’ll be more mindful of your choices and how your actions contribute to fulfilling your purpose.
Picture
Learn a Few Easy Rules about Affirmations:

  1. Time it right. Prepare yourself for challenging tasks. Perform an affirmation before you give a presentation or depart on a long flight.

  2. Clarify your values. You can apply affirmations to any area of your life, from baking a cake to putting out forest fires. Affirmations have the greatest impact when you tie them to your top priorities, whether that’s your family and friends or world peace.

  3. Write it all down. Recording your statements in a journal makes them feel more concrete. Spend about five minutes jotting your thoughts down. Identify what matters most to you and figure out the reasons behind your values.

  4. Take supporting actions. Naturally, your behavior needs to match your words. If it’s important for you to be a great tennis player, work on your backhand. To care for sick animals, enroll in veterinary school.

  5. Use a combination of resources. Blend your affirmations in with other source of assistance and encouragement. Devote time to spiritual practices or talk with a friend about a conflict to get their perspective.

  6. Develop a strong intention. Forceful wishes create mighty affirmations. Reflect on your motivation and give your full attention to what you’re saying. Engage all your senses to produce a vivid experience. If you’re trying to grow your own vegetables, imagine how they’ll look and taste.

  7. Be sincere. Analyze your affirmations to be sure they feel authentic for you. Go ahead and proclaim you’re a top salesperson if you really believe it. Otherwise, you may want to build up gradually by praising yourself for each call or visit you make.

Affirmations can lead to exciting breakthroughs, whether you want to lose weight or acquire new clients at work. Focus on your core values and let them guide your actions and affirmations.

Manifesting wealth and abundance

11/17/2020

Picture
Manifesting wealth and abundance begins from within. You have to appreciate what you have in your life already – your family, friends, and job – instead of focusing on what you wish you had.

Often people waste precious time thinking about what they don’t have. They start to believe their lives will improve if only they had more money, or more friends, or more gadgets. They think about what’s lacking instead of the abundance that is already overflowing into their life.

Positive Thinking Brings Abundance

If you appreciate what you have, you’ll be inspired to take the necessary actions to bring more of what you want into your life. From a practical point of view, this all starts with living happily with what you have.

Now at first, this may sound rather counterproductive, but living happily with what you have doesn’t mean you’re completely satisfied and fulfilled. It simply means that you appreciate all the good parts of your life, and you recognize that you can take those things you have, even if they are few, and build upon them.

Very often we take our lives for granted and forget to give thanks for all that is good. If you’re having a tough time recognizing the goodness in your life, then make a gratitude list and continue adding to it everyday. For example:

  • Be thankful when paying the rent because this means you have a place to sleep.

  • Be thankful for your winter coat because you’ll stay warm this winter.

  • Be thankful for your family because of their love, support and guidance you.

  • Be thankful for your job because it has allowed you to provide for your family.

If you can be happy with what you have now, you’ll have a deeper appreciation for the better circumstances that are coming to you in your future. Just imagine how much more you’ll appreciate your eventual move to a large home with a spacious property if you begin to enjoy your current humble place.
Picture
Keeping Up with the Neighbors

Remember, the term “wealth” doesn’t only relate to money. You can be wealthy by having a loving family who visits often or friends who care for you like one of their own. There’s much more to life than who has the latest designer purse or fanciest sports car in the neighborhood.

If you constantly compare yourself to your neighbor, based solely on material possessions, you may not fully understand what your neighbor’s life is like. He may appear wealthy with his BMW, but perhaps he is suffering in his personal life. Be very careful making judgments about others because you never truly know what’s going on behind closed doors. Material possessions alone do not make an abundant life.

Picture
First Steps Toward Wealth

When you don’t have a lot of material possessions and monetary wealth, it ironically becomes easier for you to learn how to save money. Saving money is paramount if you want to build monetary wealth, but in order to do so, you have to learn how to delay gratification. That means you must make sure you’re making more money than you’re spending. Ideally you want to pay for everything you have, not finance it – without truly owning your possessions and going into debt, you’re actually moving farther away from wealth.

Besides saving money, the real way to build wealth is to make more money. That may sound rather obvious, but too many people aren’t making the money they can and should. You have to make the conscious decision to get unstuck from your dead-end job and the rat race.

You have to rise above the crowd and do something different. That may mean you have to discover creative ways for you to make more money. For many people today, that may mean getting involved in a virtual office or an Internet-based business, but whatever the case might be for you, you can elevate yourself.

If you’re unhappy with the money you’re making, you have to starting thinking about ways to increase the amount of money you make so you can realize your dreams. Now go get started!

How to meditate in 3 minutes or less

11/5/2020

Picture
Finding time to meditate can hold you back from beginning your practice. Maybe you try to carve out time, but doctor appointments and business trips get in the way. You can’t find a free hour to sit down.

While extended meditation has its benefits, you can also boost your mindfulness with brief breaks of a few minutes or less. Try these tips for calming your mind even on your busiest days.

Brief Meditations: How to Do It...

  1. Focus on your breath. Pay attention to your breath as it enters and leaves your nostrils. Follow its path up and down your body. Notice how your abdomen and chest rise and fall when you inhale and exhale deeply.

  2. Scan your body. Search for areas of tension. Massage your stiff shoulders or hands as you imagine your breath warming and healing them.

  3. Observe your thoughts. Check out what’s on your mind without making judgements. Let your mind slow down.

  4. Embrace your feelings. You can meditate when you’re feeling content or dealing with major stress. Remember that your emotions are temporary and you decide how to respond to any situation.

  5. Watch closely. Lock your eyes onto a chosen object. Pick a candle with a flickering flame or a tree bough swaying in the breeze.

  6. Chant out loud. Fill your mind with a spiritual mantra or an inspiring saying of your own. Repeat it 3 times.

  7. Reach out and touch. Many religions use beads to count prayers and maybe even avoid falling asleep. Try wearing a bracelet or holding a charm in your palm as a trigger to bring your mind back to a beautiful and wholesome state.

Brief Meditations: When to Do It...

  1. Adjust your commute. Look forward to red lights. Use traffic signals and stop signs as a reminder to breathe.

  2. Take a break during meetings. You can stay up to date with your mind at office meetings the same way you check on phone calls and text messages. Ask yourself how you’re feeling while you’re looking to see if a client responded to your last message.

  3. Intensify your workouts.  Connect with your mind as you build up your body. Meditate for a few minutes on the treadmill or at the swimming pool.

  4. Connect with your partner. Make a date with your spouse. Mediate together for a few minutes each morning or before bed.

  5. Bond with your kids. Mindfulness exercises can be especially beneficial for children. Make your sessions fun by keeping them short and simple. Throw in some yoga poses, singing, and visualizations that will appeal to your child’s imagination.

  6. Line up. Your daily life is probably full of long lines. Next time you’re queuing up for a blockbuster movie or rushing to mail a last-minute present at the post office, remember that meditation will help you pass the time without losing your spot.

  7. Skip commercials. Do you enjoy watching 30 seconds of advertising before you can watch the video you clicked on? Hit the mute button, and enjoy the silence that surrounds you.

  8. Consume consciously. Do you automatically reach for a donut or a margarita after a rough day? On the other hand, maybe you try to soothe yourself with a little retail therapy. Meditation could be a healthier and less expensive response to stress.

Let go of stress and boost your concentration with a quick meditation session. While instant weight loss products are often disappointing, you can enjoy greater peace of mind in just a few minutes a day. That’s a miracle worth celebrating.

Enjoy A Refreshing Meditation Retreat Without Leaving Your Home

11/2/2020

Picture
It’s nice if you can take a month off from work to move into a cedar cabin in Malibu, but you can also go on a refreshing meditation retreat without ever leaving your home. Try these suggestions to set up and enjoy a restful and enriching experience.

Steps for Preparing Your Home

  1. Clear away clutter. Minimize distractions by putting the TV, phone and computer out of sight. This is good time to discard possessions you rarely use or store them away. Physical clutter also tends to cause mental clutter!

  2. Set out appropriate objects. Select a few items that help to put you in the mood. You may want to arrange a small vase of flowers or serve yourself tea on a pretty tray.

  3. Prepare to eat light. Foods that are easy to digest will let you concentrate your energy on other activities. Fill your refrigerator with yogurt and salad greens. Drink protein shakes.

  4. Dim the lights. Soft lights will calm your mind. Light candles or use shaded table lamps.

  5. Gather inspirational reading material. Browse online or visit your library for books that you can read during your retreat. Pick whatever is meaningful for you.

  6. Keep track of time. When you’re new to meditating, it may help to use a device that will let you know how much time is passing without watching the clock. Put your alarm clock behind you and set it to a pleasant sound. Or sit for as long as it takes one stick of incense to burn down.

  7. Find a cushion. You can buy an official looking cushion or use your bed pillow. Sit in a straight backed chair if you find that more comfortable.

Steps for Preparing Your Mind

  1. Pick a good time. Make some free time on your calendar. Your best dates may be when your spouse is away on a business trip or your kids are spending the night at a friend’s house.

  2. Slow down in advance. The weekend after a major convention could be a difficult time to switch gears. Become more deliberate and mindful in the days before your retreat so you’ll need less transition time.

  3. Try to resolve any pressing issues. Take care of doctor visits and car repairs before you go on retreat. Put aside future plans as much as possible.

  4. Let people know you’ll be out of touch. Write an auto reply for your email letting people know you’ll reply on whatever date your retreat is over. Ask your loved ones to avoid contacting you except for emergencies.
  5. Focus on what you want to attain. Set a goal for your retreat. You may want to strengthen your determination to pursue a new career path. Maybe you want to draw closer to your family and friends.

During Your Meditations

  1. Breathe deeply. Breathing correctly improves your mental functions. Take full breaths from down in your abdomen. Let the air travel in and out of your nostrils.

  2. Straighten up. Good posture also helps you stay alert and concentrate better. Straighten your back, relax your shoulders, and hold your head erect and slightly forward.

  3. Observe your thoughts. Watch your thoughts without making judgments. Identify any concerns or goals you want to spend more time reflecting on.

After Your Retreat

Much of the value of any retreat lies in the aftermath. Develop a practical plan of action for reaching your goals. Review your progress daily to help stay on track.

Get away from it all while you stay at home. Meditation retreats occur in your mind, so create a peaceful setting and generate positive thoughts you can take along with you when you resume your daily routine.
