Freeze Fruit And Save Money!

There is nothing better than saving some money!

In this blog I show you step-by-step how you can make your own frozen fruit bags. It's easy and it saves you from throwing out fresh fruit that has gone bad (that was a real problem for me, being that I hate to throw away money).

I love to make smoothies with fresh fruit but I found myself switching up my ingredients a lot. One day I may want strawberries then for 2 or 3 days I may want to add peaches instead. But when I go back to get the strawberries days later....MOLDED!!!they've gone bad.
So I decided to freeze my own fruits. Why not just buy frozen fruit you ask? Well for starters, I want fresh fruit...I don't have a clue as to how long that fruit has been in those bags. Second...I heard that they spray the fruit down with something prior to freezing them.

Any who...here is my way of freezing them ;-)

1. Inspect your fruit to make sure there are no signs of mold. Wash your fruit off thoroughly but gently(raspberries have a tendency to smash easily).

2. Lay your fruit out on a container that is flat and one that can be placed in the freezer. Don't pile them up...they can touch but don't over do it! If you are dealing with a fruit like strawberries, make sure to cut off the tops first. I like to lay them down on the cut off ends because it makes it easier to loosen them up. (Make sure you don't have any loose water in the container...if so, pour out)

3. Place the container into the freezer until your fruit is completely frozen solid...this may take an hour or so (depends on your freezer temp).

4. Take your fruit out the freezer after is has become frozen. Make sure to have a plastic freezer bag ready to add your fruit to. You now want to take a knife or fork and gently lift the fruit off the pan. (I show you how in video below)

5. Bag it up and your done. Place back in freezer and use when ready!

I like to use frozen fruit when making my smoothies, this keeps me from having to use ice. I will thaw some fruit out and leave some frozen.

Here is how much I paid:
Raspberries $3.79 - 12oz
Blackberries $4.29 - 18oz
Strawberries $5.99 - 32oz
You can see it's cheaper to buy it in quantity = last longer and saves you money!

***If you are freezing a fruit that oxidize quickly (like apples, bananas, peaches...etc) you will need to spray/rub lemon juice on them before freezing.
***If you want to freeze bananas or any fruit with a peel...FIRST peel the peeling off, then freeze!

Hope you enjoyed the post...check back as I have more to come :-)
