Weight loss is definitely a journey. And like all journeys with their highs and lows, we usually focus on the lows of it all. According to a survey by Gallup, about half of the American population — nearly 45 percent — worry about their weight. And this is despite the fact that many of them take proper measures to lose weight. Clearly, losing weight and being healthy is a priority in our mind. Yet, we aren’t able to attain that goal. In fact, even when we do, we end up worrying whether we might lapse and become as unhealthy as we were before. And that is certainly something to be concerned about. We of course refer, not to the idea of losing weight, but to the idea that we absolutely must lose weight! Our Unhealthy Relationship with Healthy Weight Loss For a lot of people, losing weight and becoming healthy are one and the same. After all, having a slim, lean body with not too much fat on your bones is the epitome of health. So why would you not want to achieve the same goal? However, with this goal of attaining a slim, size-2 body, we forget a couple of important details; namely whether we have the capacity to even achieve this goal and more importantly, if we even need to do so. A study conducted by a group of scientists from the Medical Research Council in the UK found that people that had an unusually lean body type actually had a higher risk of developing diabetes and even heart disease, and this was despite their low body fat. So that’s one question out of the way; if being on the path to slim is even beneficial. Truth be told, it’s not. Rather than aiming for a smaller figure, you should be focused on a healthier figure.
